Year 10 to Year 11 Transition

Moving into Year 11 is a significant milestone and an exciting one.

01

A sharper focus

This is the year everything comes together, and at Yateley School we are committed to making sure every student feels supported, prepared, and confident as they work towards their GCSEs.

Year 11 brings an increased focus on GCSE preparation across all subjects. Lessons build on the foundations laid in Year 10, going deeper into content and developing the exam skills that will make a real difference in the summer.

02

Period 7 and tutor support

Every student has access to Period 7, which offers additional sessions after the school day that students can attend to get extra support, consolidate their learning, or simply make the most of the time and resources available to them.

In Year 11, the tutor programme takes on an added dimension. As well as the usual pastoral support, tutors provide dedicated GCSE support and wellbeing check-ins, helping students to manage the demands of the year with confidence.

03

Key dates

The Year 11 calendar has some important milestones to plan around: December mock examinations, March core GCSE examinations, and final GCSE examinations in the summer.

Knowing these dates early allows students and families to plan revision, manage workload, and make the most of the support on offer at each stage.

04

GCSE Week Ahead, study leave and next steps

At the start of the exam season, Yateley School produces the GCSE Week Ahead document, a practical guide to what is coming up including revision breakfast sessions and other opportunities. It is shared with both students and parents across all channels, so make it a weekly habit.

Throughout the year there will be additional revision and support sessions available, so keep an eye on communications for details. As the final exams approach, all students will move onto study leave, giving them dedicated time to focus on their preparation.

Year 11 also includes a programme of assemblies covering everything from exam technique and revision strategies to life beyond Yateley School. For students thinking about their next steps, visit our Careers section for guidance and information.

Year 11 is demanding, but it is also genuinely one of the most rewarding years of school. Back yourself, use everything available to you, and make this year count.
