Welcome to the Yateley School community

Starting secondary school is one of the biggest steps in a young person's life — and we know it can feel daunting for parents and students alike. We want you to know that you are joining a school that genuinely cares, and that we will do everything we can to make September feel like an exciting beginning rather than an anxious unknown.

We work closely with our primary school partners to gather everything we need to know about your child before they arrive. Our aim is simple: that every student feels settled, supported, and ready to thrive from day one.

What to expect

The School Day

Classes run from 8.45am to 3.10pm, Monday to Friday. Students should be on site by 8.40am ready for Tutor Time at 8.45am. There are five lessons each day, with a break at 11.05am and lunch from 1.30pm.

Houses

Every student at Yateley School belongs to one of our four Houses: Darwin, Nightingale, Pankhurst, or Wilberforce. Where possible, siblings are placed in the same House. Houses are at the heart of school life, bringing a sense of belonging, friendly competition, and community.

Tutor Groups

Your child will be placed in a mixed-ability tutor group within their House. Their form tutor is the first point of contact for day-to-day welfare and is someone your child can go to whenever they need support.

Setting

Students are initially placed in two mixed-ability blocks. Maths and Science are then set based on SATs results and internal assessments. All other subjects are taught in mixed-ability groups. Placement is reviewed regularly to make sure every student is in the right environment for them.

Uniform

We believe uniform promotes equality, pride, and a sense of belonging. From September 2026, only a small number of items need to carry the school logo — so it is straightforward and affordable to kit your child out correctly.

Compulsory branded items:

School jumper (with house stripe)
School tie
PE polo shirt
One item of branded PE bottoms (shorts, skort, track pants, or leggings)

All other items — black trousers or skirt, white shirt or blouse, plain black shoes — can be purchased from any retailer, provided they meet our specification.

If cost is a concern, please contact us. We have second-hand uniform available and can offer support in line with the Affordable Uniform Act (2021).

Equipment

Your child should bring a fully stocked pencil case every day, including a scientific calculator, ruler, compass, protractor, pens (black, blue, and green), pencils, eraser, sharpener, and glue stick. A general notebook is also useful. We do not permit the use of Tipp-ex in school.

Laptop (BYOD)

Yateley School operates a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) scheme. Every Year 7 student needs a Windows 11 laptop (minimum 4GB RAM, 128GB storage, 5GHz wireless, 6.5-hour battery, 11-inch screen or larger). Chromebooks, tablets, and Apple devices are not suitable.

If you need support sourcing a device, we offer a school purchase scheme with optional payment plans, and Pupil Premium students will have a device provided. Full details will be sent to you during the summer term.

Tools and apps

Staying connected

My Child at School (MCAS)

MCAS is our main parent communication portal. Once your child starts with us, you will use it to view their timetable, attendance, achievements, reports, and behaviour information. Registration details will be sent home in September.

Satchel:One (Homework)

All homework is set online via Satchel:One, so you and your child can always see what has been set, when it is due, and whether it has been submitted. Login details will be given to students during ICT lessons in the autumn term.

Scopay (Payments)

School meals, trips, and other items are paid for online via Scopay. The school operates a cashless catering system using biometric registration. Details on setting up your account will follow during the summer term.

Schoolcomms and Bromcom

General communications, including the weekly Parents' Bulletin, are sent by email. Please add sc8504166a@schoolcomms.com and 14456@bromcomcloud.com to your safe senders list so nothing ends up in your junk folder.

Pastoral care

Your child's wellbeing comes first

Pastoral care is at the heart of everything we do. Our four Houses, led by experienced Heads of House, provide every student with a team of people who know them well and have their best interests at heart.

We also have a dedicated Student Support team, led by our SENDCo, Mrs Caroline Uttley, who works closely with teaching and pastoral staff to ensure that students with additional needs receive the right support from the very start.

Before your child joins us, we visit our feeder primary schools to gather important information. Students with identified SEND may also be invited to additional induction sessions to help them feel familiar and confident ahead of September.

Getting here

Travel and transport

Most families arrange their own travel to school. For those who need support, there are several options:

Stagecoach Service 3 runs from Aldershot via Ash, Camberley, and Darby Green, stopping near St Swithun's Church on Firgrove Road.
Stagecoach Service 406 runs from California Crossroads and Finchampstead via Eversley.
School coach services cover routes from north Hampshire, Berkshire, the Hook and Hartley Wintney corridor, and the Farnborough area.
