How to report illness, request planned absence, manage appointments and understand the school’s attendance expectations.
Attendance guidance
Attendance is important for learning, safeguarding and belonging. A 90% attendance figure means a student is missing around one full day every two weeks, which adds up quickly across Years 7 to 11.
Illness reporting
Students should attend school as much as possible and be on time to school and lessons. The school aims for whole-school attendance of at least 96%.
If your child is clearly unwell in the morning, please do not send them to school. Email the attendance team with their name, form, reason for absence and whether they may be absent for more than one day.
Attendance connects closely to safeguarding. If a student is absent for three or more days, the school may need to complete a safeguarding visit to check they are safe.
If you know in advance that your child will be absent or late for an appointment, please email the attendance team. Students arriving after registration must report to reception.
If a child is taken ill or has an accident during the day, they will be cared for until a parent can be contacted. Please keep emergency contact details up to date.
Medication in school requires an Administration of Medicines/Treatment Consent Form. Medicines should be clearly labelled with the child’s name and form and left in the medical room.
Planned absence requests must be made in writing and authorised by the Headteacher. Unauthorised planned absence may result in a fine.
If your child arrives after registration in Period 1 at 8.45am, they must sign a late slip at reception so the school has a record of their presence on site.
The school classifies attendance of 90% or less as Persistent Absence, and 50% or less as Critical Absence. The school will work with families to improve attendance where needed.
