Practical, career-focused learning
Our vocational courses provide practical, career-focused learning and are highly valued by universities and employers. Courses include CACHE and other vocational pathways designed to develop specialist knowledge and transferable skills.
Independent research, real depth
The EPQ allows students to undertake independent research into an area of personal interest. Universities highly value the qualification as evidence of academic curiosity, research skills and independent learning. In 2025, EPQ students achieved a 100% A*-B success rate.
A Levels
To take A Levels, you normally need at least 5 GCSEs at grade 5 or above. A Levels are mainly exam-based and take two years to complete. They are the traditional route to university, but can be challenging if you have lower GCSE grades. In this case, BTECs might be a good alternative as they are just as valuable but focus more on coursework. A Levels are graded from A* to E, with final exams at the end of the two years.
Most subjects have reduced coursework, with no more than 20% of the final grade being coursework-based. No more than 20% of the final grade being coursework-based applies to most subjects.
Specific A Level Subjects
- Physics, Chemistry, and Biology: Require a grade 5 or above in English and at least grade 6 in Combined Science, or grade 6 in individual sciences.
- Maths: You need a minimum grade 6 in GCSE Maths, but a grade 7-9 is strongly recommended. For Further Maths, you need at least a grade 8.
- Psychology: Requires at least a grade 5 in both GCSE Maths and Science.
- English Language: Ideally, a grade 6 in GCSE English Language or Literature is required. If you do not have this grade, speak to Mrs Meadows to discuss your options.
- Geography: Requires at least a grade 5 in GCSE Maths and English.
BTECs and Diplomas
- GCSE Requirements: You need at least 4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above to take BTECs.
- Learning Style: BTECs are coursework-based and often include practical skills.
- Grading & Duration: They last for two years and are graded as Pass, Merit, Distinction, or Distinction* (equivalent to A Level grades E, C, A, and A*).
