Governors
Welcome to the Governors’ area
As Governors of Yateley School, we have a responsibility to make sure the students are getting the best all-round education possible. We do this by looking at results and outcomes, by asking questions, by talking to staff, parents and students and by visiting the school. We can then legitimately challenge the school to do better in areas which are not performing as strongly as they could be. We also love to celebrate the things the school is doing really well.

Mark Hainy
Chair (Co-opted Governor)
- Date Appointed/Re-Appointed: 16/11/2021
- Term of Office: 4 Years
- Pecuniary Interests: None
I have lived in Yateley for over ten years with my wife and daughter, after moving out of London, and we haven’t looked back! My background is in senior leadership, fundraising and marketing in the not-for-profit and higher education sectors with some consultancy thrown in for good measure. Education plays such an important and critical part in every young person’s life, and while my own comprehensive experience was a long time ago now, I remember it fondly, as a time when I was able to explore subjects in more depth and generally have a great time with friends. This is my first time volunteering as a School Governor, and I’m lucky to be at a school that has a very exciting future ahead of it thanks to the commitment and hard work of staff and students.

Eamon O’Reilly
Vice Chair (Co-opted Governor)
- Date Appointed/Re-Appointed: 08/07/2024
- Term of Office: 4 Years
- Pecuniary Interests: None
I am new to the governing body having joined in July 2020 as a co-opted governor. Prior to this I spent 10 years as a governor at a local primary school and now that both of my children have transitioned to Yateley I want to utilise that experience to help me be part of making our school the best it can be.
I have lived in Yateley for 17 years and work in the NHS in West London as a Trust Lead Nurse for Cancer. I am looking forward to my 4-year term of office and working with the governing body and the wider school to provide a safe and inspiring environment for our young people to learn in.

I have worked as Clerk since 2013 in a range of schools in North Hampshire and joined the school in Autumn 2022. My role is to provide administrative support to the governing body as well as procedural advice and guidance on governance matters. I thoroughly enjoy the role and the insight it gives me into education and school life.

- Pecuniary Interests: Head of Yateley School Senior Management

Janet Williams
Yateley School Head of Wilberforce House

Camilla Bailey
Co-opted Governor
- Date Appointed/Re-Appointed: 18/10/2024
- Term of Office: 4 Years
- Pecuniary Interests: Member of Staff
I have lived in Yateley all of my life, attended local schools, and have been employed at Yateley School as a Cover Supervisor Manager for 16 years. I am married with two daughters and have enjoyed a varied career over the years. My responsibilities have always involved interaction with people, whether as part of my job or on a volunteer basis.
In my present role, I am fortunate enough to be covering lessons for absent teachers in all subject departments and year groups. I am involved in varying degrees of staff development, student mentoring schemes and assist in various business links and career events. I have a particular interest in effective Behaviour Management.
I am not a stranger to being a member of a Governing Board and contributed successfully at another local school for 12 years. I look forward to the opportunities that being a member of this Governing Board will bring. I firmly believe that ‘every child matters’ and that staff are the compass in providing a fun and diverse educational environment, providing opportunities for all. We have a fantastic learning platform here at Yateley School. I feel privileged to be part of this Governing Body, working together, moving forward with our progression and successes, and all ultimately for the benefit of the students.

Meredith Bevan
Co-opted Governor
- Date Appointed/Re-Appointed: 25/09/2024
- Term of Office: 4 Years
- Pecuniary Interests: None
Meredith is a Co-opted Governor, having previously served as a Parent Governor. I have lived in the area for over 10 years. I am married with two children, both of whom attend Yateley School.
I have a very varied work life and run a fast-paced, high-profile business in West London, employing over 150 team members. I have been a Governor before at a Secondary School in Slough that achieved and still maintains ‘Outstanding’ status. The role of Governor can be challenging and also inspiring, and I would recommend it to anyone who believes that it is important to support young children in education.

Martin Harris
Co-opted Governor
- Date Appointed/Re-Appointed: 11/12/2023
- Term of Office: 4 Years
- Pecuniary Interests: Wife teaches at Yateley’s Health & Fitness
I have lived in Yateley all my life (over 50 years!!), attending Cranford Park Infants, St Peter’s Junior School, and finally Yateley School (1979-1986). My career has been spent in Finance-related roles in both public practice and industry. I am currently a Cost Engineer working in the Public Sector.
This is my first School Governor role, and it is a privilege to be involved in Yateley School, as it played a major part in my teenage years and is where both my sons have attended (YRS7 through to YR13 and their A Levels).

James Davies
Parent Governor
- Date Appointed: 09/12/2023
- Term of Office: 4 Years
- Pecuniary Interests: None
I am a parent of two girls, both of whom are now students at Yateley School. I have previously been a governor of a local infant school, which I really enjoyed. Combining my interest in seeing Yateley School’s continued success with my other skills, I’m honoured to have the opportunity to try and help where I can.
My other skills come from over 20 years in technology leadership roles in a range of consumer goods companies. I’m currently the Group IT Director for a multi-national manufacturer of garden care products.

Wendy Cairns
Local Authority Governor
- Date Appointed/Re-Appointed: 21/05/2022 (new 4-year term)
- Term of Office: 4 Years
- Pecuniary Interests: None
I have lived in Yateley for over 35 years, and my four children all attended Yateley School. They are now all gainfully employed and living away from home, so the school clearly did a good job!
I have been a governor at Yateley School, with a short break, for over 20 years and find it a very stimulating and enjoyable activity. I was a local magistrate, a member of the North-East Hampshire Bench. Despite now being retired, I find myself busier than ever.

Matt Grantham

- Pecuniary Interests: None
I have lived in Yateley for over 5 years having previously lived in Sandhurst and West London before that. I am married with three children, with my eldest joining Yateley School in Year 7 in September 2020. I work as a senior leader in a Financial Services company and am keen to use my financial and strategic skills to help support staff.
Professionally I work as a senior leader within a Financial Services company, and I am keen to use my financial and strategic skills to help support staff to ensure that the decisions relating to the running of the school lead to the best possible outcomes for all the children. I am passionate that the pupils of Yateley school continue to receive an outstanding education, preparing them for the years ahead.

Brian Turner
Parent Governor
- Date Appointed: 30/11/2024
- Term of Office: 4 Years
- Pecuniary Interests: None
I grew up in Yateley – more than several moons ago – and passed through the Westfields and Yateley School complex before some time in FE in Farnborough and finally university in London. A few years after graduating, I found my vocation teaching English in Japan. Since then, there has been a bit of back and forth and back again and I now work at the University of Reading. My family and I lived in Reading for 11 years and I served as a parent governor at my son’s primary there until we moved back to Yateley (again) in Jan 2022. As you might expect, I am keen on education and happy to serve as a volunteer on the Yateley School governing board and hope that my various experiences and perspectives will be of benefit to the school.
