SEND Support
Supporting Students with SEND at Yateley School
At Yateley School, we believe that every student deserves the best possible education, regardless of their individual needs. We are committed to providing high-quality teaching and tailored support for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
What is SEND?
Students with SEND have greater difficulty learning than their peers or may have physical or mental impairments that significantly impact their day-to-day activities. To support these students, we offer teaching and interventions tailored to their specific needs. This ensures every student can thrive and achieve their full potential.
How Do We Identify and Support SEND Students?
- Identification: We assess students’ needs through classroom observations and regular progress reviews. Sometimes, needs are identified in primary school, but we remain alert to changes in any student’s progress at Yateley.
- Classroom Support: Our teachers are trained to make reasonable adjustments, such as providing visual aids or additional time, to help SEND students engage fully with the curriculum.
- Interventions: In some cases, students may need extra support, such as small group interventions, or time in our dedicated Student Support rooms.

Student Support at Yateley School
We understand that each child is unique, and we offer a range of services to support their development:
- Accelerated Learning Centre (ALC): This is where one-to-one or small group interventions take place for literacy, numeracy, and other core skills.
- Emotional and Mental Health Support: We offer help through Therapeutic Active Listening Assistants (TALA) and Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSA) for students who require emotional or social guidance.
- Inclusive Extra-Curricular Activities: All students, including those with SEND, are encouraged to participate fully in school activities, including clubs, sports, and trips.
How We Collaborate with Parents and Carers
We believe that strong communication between home and school is vital in supporting students with SEND. Our SEND team is always available for discussions, and we encourage parents to reach out if they have any concerns or need more information.
You can contact us directly via email at SEND@yateley.hants.sch.uk. Our team meets weekly to discuss student progress, and we aim to respond to any queries within two working days.
