House Drama 2017

An absolute highlight of the week, indeed the year was the annual House Drama competition which took
place on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. After weeks of painstaking preparation the House teams
produced unique and wonderful work for audiences who were proud, impressed and enthralled. I cannot
commend the Sixth Form Captains and their teams of talented younger actors highly enough. I had high
hopes and they were exceeded! It is a clear example of the power of the house system; developing
leadership, building talent and above all giving students memorable experiences that will last them a life
time. Thank you also to my wonderful staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes and especially, of
course, to the Drama team.
The individual student awards are:

  • Best actor: Archie Westland-Rose
  • Best supporting actor: Louis Double
  • Best actress: Sophie Green
  • Best supporting actress: Zoe Clarke
  • Best team player: Muaz Zaman

Great performances all round, but particular congratulations to the victors of House Drama 2017 –
Nightingale House!

Year 9 Programming Challenge Launch

Year 9 Programming Challenge Launch

On Tuesday 31 October eight of our Year 9 G&T students attended the launch of the Programming challenge. The students were given a very broad brief, with the aim being to create a piece of software using Python software to help students in our school with their studies. No pressure!

The two teams will have to give a short presentation on their ideas behind the software and how it works at the finals day in December 2017. On the day a Project manager from Farnborough International gave the students insightful presentation on how he puts together the Farnborough Air Show and the process he has to go through with his team to create a successful event. It was fascinating and prompted a good deal of discussion amongst Yateley students on how to achieve such a complex task.

Yateley have two teams entered into the challenge and we look forward to what the finished product will be ready for December-17… watch this space!

This is how to do it…

Hi, my name is Pimer and a few weeks ago I started year 7 here at Yateley School. At first I was a bit scared about making friends, the homework and the different types of discipline but all of the staff and the prefects were really lovely and they helped to show me around and encourage me to join in with lots of house and main school events. Now I have made lots of new friends and I am in house drama and the main school production Bugsy Malone would like to thank: My form tutors Mrs Park and Mrs Carson, The two Nightingale prefects Georgia and Lauren and finally my head of house Mrs Short and Mrs Goldwater for all helping me and my form to settle into school life here at Yateley School.

Pimer Thuambe – 7NN

My view of getting started at Yateley School

When I arrived at Yateley school I was nervous. But I soon got used to it and found myself making new friends! I have had a little bump with SEN.CO but that was sorted with no problem! Yateley school has been very welcoming and I have no problem with getting lost, which I thought I would… but have been getting used to it just fine!!

Year 7 – Getting started!

In my opinion, I think my time at Yateley is going great so far. I haven’t gotten lost, had any behavior points or detentions! One thing I think could improve is that a girls football club could be introduced, well, re-introduced for us to play in. I think that the new teachers are doing well and I am really enjoying myself. My favourite bit of the school (so far) is Food and Design Technology.

Getting Facebook!

Naturally we are plowing ahead with adoption of “new” technologies at Yateley School and a mere 13 years after their inauguration we now have a Facebook Page! Creating it took me back to the glory days and an opportunity to reminisce about our 2014 Twitter account that we nailed just eight years late…

So please do join us if you have a Facebook account, we’d love you to “Like” the school and see a little more about what we do at https://www.facebook.com/yateleyschool/. If you don’t like the school for any reason then please do contact us… we want to make everyone proud to wear the badge! See you soon on social media!

Sporting Success at County Athletics 2017!

We had an amazing 15 students from Year 7 and Year 8 selected to represent Aldershot and Districts Schools Athletics team at the Hampshire Track and Field Championships last Tuesday , they were invited  due to their outstanding efforts at the District Championships two weeks ago. They all competed brilliantly in very wet conditions and contributed to Aldershot winning all four age categories on the day. We had some individual achievements too! We are very fortunate to have two County Champions Harry Ware in the U13  600m and Ed Webb for U13 Discus, however all the athletes performed very well on a very dark and wet day and all should be so very proud of there achievements.
